Verdict
A glass of wine (150 ml) has 128 kcal vs 144 kcal for a can of beer (350 ml), with far fewer carbs (3.9 g vs 11.6 g). Per 100 ml, though, wine has twice the calories (85 vs 41 kcal) — the glass only wins because it's smaller. In both, most calories come from alcohol (7 kcal per gram), which doesn't show in the macro columns and also hurts muscle recovery. In practice, the number of drinks is what decides.
When to choose Red wine
- You'll drink little and want the drink with fewer calories and carbs.
- You'd rather have one drink with a meal than several cans through the night.
When to choose Beer
- You prefer beer: 1–2 cans fit in a planned day.
- Tip: alternating with water or zero soda cuts the night's total a lot.
